Yes. Transplanted follicles are taken from the "safe donor zone" - an area genetically programmed to resist the hormones that cause hair loss. Once these follicles are transplanted, they retain their permanent characteristics and continue growing for a lifetime. However, non-transplanted hair may continue to thin over time, which is why Dr. Shah often recommends complementary treatments like finasteride or PRP therapy.

While there is no strict minimum age, most surgeons recommend waiting until at least age 25 before considering a hair transplant. This is because hair loss patterns are still evolving in younger patients, making it difficult to plan a result that will look natural long-term. Shock loss refers to the temporary shedding of transplanted hair shafts that occurs 2-6 weeks after surgery. This is a completely normal part of the hair growth cycle - the follicle roots remain alive and intact beneath the skin. Nearly all transplant patients experience shock loss. New hair begins growing from these follicles around month 3. Some patients also experience temporary shedding of existing native hair near the transplanted area, which also regrows.

With FUE and DHI techniques, the donor area heals with tiny dot scars (less than 1mm) that are virtually invisible, even with very short haircuts. Dr. Shah uses advanced closure techniques to minimise any scarring. Most patients cannot detect any signs of surgery once healing is complete.

You should avoid any tight-fitting headwear for at least 3 weeks after surgery. After day 7-10, you may wear a very loose-fitting hat (like a fisherman hat or loose baseball cap) when going outdoors to protect from sun exposure. Ensure the hat does not press on or rub against the transplanted grafts. After 3-4 weeks, you can wear hats normally.
